History
Back in 1986, Yamaha, a Japanese company, had several years of experience in the field of outboard motor manufacturing and they wanted to diversify their interests further. Personal watercraft had only recently come onto the market, so the company designed their own model and christened it the WaveRunner. This sit-down style PWC was comfortable to ride, with a stylish open stern and maximum agility. Both novice and experienced riders could enjoy all the features that the WaveRunner had to offer, and it became immensely popular.Improvements
However, Yamaha didn’t stop with one design! They continued to tinker with the WaveRunner and develop new features along with more finely-tuned performance so that their 1990s models were more powerful and sleek than ever before. Yamaha became one of the top PWC manufacturers by the turn of the century as a result of their hard work. The FX140 WaveRunner was the first PWC on the market that had a four-stroke engine, released in 2002. This model also had excellent fuel economy to reduce time between fill-ups and let riders cruise for longer. A redesigned hull improved the craft’s stability so it could more easily power through waves without tipping over.
By 2008, the company was ready to release another novel innovation: lighter hulls. The use of a composite material called NanoXcel in the hulls of new WaveRunners made them 35% lighter in weight than previous models. A more lightweight PWC is more agile, which only increases the thrills for riders of all stripes.
