A Brief History of Honda® Powersports
The Honda Motor Company has displayed years of success in the automotive, power, marine, and powersports industries. In each market, they’ve become a trusted and reliable name. Our team at Pensacola Motorsports is proud to carry their products and we want to share a brief history of how this famous brand came to be.
It Started With Motorcycles
In 1948, co-founders Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa established the company and introduced a 98cc motorcycle. After World War II, motorcycles had gained a lot of popularity and they were able to recognize and capitalize on the growing interest.
The first model was wildly successful and the streets of Japan were soon filled with the Honda® D-type models. Over the next several years, new designs were created to better suit customer needs.
Introduction to America
Around 1959 Honda emerged in the United States. The American branch of the company was established in Los Angeles and by 1964 they became the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer. After a decade of being in Los Angeles, the company celebrated its one millionth motorcycle sale.
Passion in Racing
The wide success of Honda motorcycles allowed Soichiro to pursue a childhood dream of racing. He’d dreamt of becoming a winner with a machine he built himself. 1961 was a good year for the team’s passion for racing. They brought home a first place title at the Mexico Grand Prix and the Isle of Man TT.
From those successes, today Honda Powersports is known for an outstanding lineup of ATVs, scooters, side-by-sides, and, of course, motorcycles. They’re a name you can trust and their history is one that can inspire your own success. If you’re interested in finding your own powersports vehicle, visit us Pensacola, FL.
