Brakes

The brakes will endure a lot of wear on rough terrain, so you should always inspect them when performing UTV maintenance. Brake pads should wear evenly, so any signs of uneven wear should be further examined. Replace worn-down brake pads and make sure that there’s enough brake fluid in the reservoirs. If your brakes sound squeaky or make a grinding sound, consider taking your side-by-side into the shop for some professional help.

Fuel

Many UTVs work best when operated on high-octane fuel. Ethanol fuels can stretch your fuel supply, but they lead to more buildup and corrosion in your engine, so using the right type of gas can help you keep your engine working well. Drain your carburetor after every ride if you use normal ethanol gas. Make sure to fill up your tank before each trip so you’re not caught without gas in your side-by-side in the middle of nowhere. If you’re storing your UTV for a while, use a fuel stabilizer to prevent your gasoline from breaking down.

Driveline

This one should probably be left to expert technicians, but you should take your UTV to a service shop at least once a year to get the driveline checked. Whether your side-by-side is chain- or belt-driven, make sure to check the belt or chain tension once every three oil changes.
